Abstract
Cellulose material is treated with a cuprammonium salt in aqueous ammonia, and subsequently treated with an agent for activating the previous solution, e.g. caustic soda. The activating treatment is preferably effected below room temperature. Pattern effects may be produced by resist - printing before the cuprammonium is applied, the resist treatment may be combined with a dyeing treatment; the fabric is soured and washed and may be finally overprinted with a dye. Suitable copper salts are the chloride, nitrate, cyanide, chlorate, bichromate, formate, acetate, oxalate or citrate. In an example, cotton goods are fed under slight tension into a solution comprising copper sulphate and ammonia, lightly squeezed, then passed into caustic soda solution of 50 DEG Tw. preferably at 38 DEG F., squeezed, stretched, soured and washed. The cloth is immersed in each bath for 3-8 secs.
