Abstract

489,298. Moulding concrete pipes. HUME PIPE CO. (AUSTRALIA), Ltd., and HALKYARD, C. C. Jan. 22, 1937, No. 2008. [Class 87 (ii)] The inner surface of the socket end b of a spun concrete pipe is shaped by trowelling cement on the inner wall, while the pipe is still in the mould a, by means of a finishing former m, relative rotation being effected between the pipe and the former as by rotating the mould. The cement or a mixture thereof with stone dust is passed in powder form through apertures n in the former m. The edges of the apertures may be bevelled. The former may be provided with a handle p so that it can be rotated or can be held stationary as the pipe rotates. The centrifugal mould a comprises end-pieces c, held by tie-rods e and having runner faces f. A socket former is detachably secured as by screws on one endpiece and the pipe is moulded. Spaces occur between the former and the pipe and these are filled by replacing the former by the finishing former m and introducing and trowelling cement thereby.
