Abstract

488,247. Endless-track vehicles. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-. (Marmon-Herrington Co., Inc.) Oct. 8, 1937, No. 27425. [Class 79 (i)] In an endless-track vehicle having a water-tight body mechanism is provided operable from within the body to move a track-engaging pulley to tension the track. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the idler pulley 13 rotates on a pin 60 carried eccentrically by a disc 61 secured to a sleeve 65 mounted in bearings 69 carried by the vehicle body 10 which is watertight up to the level of the running- board 10<1>. The sleeve 65 is fixed to a shaft 66 carrying an arm 71 within the body and connected by an adjustable link 72 to a lever 73 controlled by a spring 74, which tends to rock the arm 71 and keep the track under tension. The bearings 69 have an oil seal at 90 to keep water out. The eccentricity of the pin 60 relative to the sleeve 65 may be varied; for this purpose the sleeve 65 is formed with a circular eccentric head 64 which can be rotated in a socket in the disc 61 to any desired position, being fixed in this position by bolts 63. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the pulley 13 rotates on a pin 100 fixed to a block 102 sliding in guides 103 on the body 10, the block being controlled by a cam 113 fixed on a shaft 112 passing through a water-tight bearing in the body and having an arm 116 loaded by an adjustable spring 117. An adjustable stop 122 limits the outward movement of the block 102.
