Abstract
488,232. Float valves. KING, W. April 27, 1937, No. 12007. [Class 135] A glass ball float is secured to a valveactuating arm by a stirrup clamped by a threaded bolt and nut about a circumferential groove or rib on the ball so as to be capable of angular adjustment yet without increasing the tension of the grip on the ball to an extent likely to break it. In the form shown, the stirrup is in two parts d<1>, d2 having bent portions c secured by a square-headed bolt and wing- nut k to a lug f on a socket f screwed to the valve arm g. In a modification, the stirrup is formed in one piece and has opposite the bent ends a portion of reduced width which is slightly bent outwardly. The glass ball may be in one piece, or may be formed of two pressed glass hemispheres joined together as by screwing, in which case the circumferential groove will extend at right-angles to the joint. A rubber buffer may be secured to the ball.
