Abstract

488,077. Casting pipe joints. FLUCKIGER, H. Nov. 5, 1937, No. 30370. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1936. [Class 83 (i)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A mould for filling a spigot-and-socket pipe joint with asphalt, lead, &c. comprises an open rubber ring 4, Fig. 1, the ends 5 of which are outwardly bent to form a pouring hole. The ring is applied to the spigot 1 and pressed against the end of the socket, whereupon its two ends are drawn together by the engagement of a link 7 connected to a straining lever 6 on one end with a rack 8 on the other end. The outer side of the link 7 is offset and adapted to press the ring ends 5 on to the spigot, and both the straining member 6 and the rack 8 are provided on their outer edges with stiffening walls 10 which reach almost to the inner edge of the ring 4. The ring is preferably embraced by a steel band 12 secured by screws 11 and capable of being displaced relatively thereto. In a modification, Fig. 6, the inner side of the ring is provided with a rebate 15 having an asbestos &c. lining, and the pouring hole 14 is formed by recessing the ends of the ring above the said rebate.
