Abstract

240,220. Lightalloys, Ltd., and Mann, E. L. June 24, 1924. Cores of sheet metal, which may be reinforced with a filling of preheated sand, are split longitudinally so as to contract with the casting. The core has one or two lap-joints 2 which may have interlocking ribs 6. The joint may be closed by solder or other material having a melting point slightly below that of the metal cast. If a sand filling is used the joint need only be spot soldered. A cast exhaust manifold'. 7, Fig. 5, has a sheet metal core 8 with a bottom 9, joint 10, and openings 11 for other cores 12.
