Abstract
202,730. Victaulic Co., Ltd., (formerly Victory Pipe Joint Co., Ltd.), and Johnson, P. G. May 24, 1922. Joints with divided sleeve; cup-leather joints. -In joints for pipes in which a leak-proof ring bridging the ends of the pipes is retained in position bv a housing as described in Specification 149,381, the housing is made of concrete and moulded in two parts adapted to be readily connected. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the two halves 21, 22 are provided with lugs 23, 24 having tapered holes 25, 30 which are filled with bonding material when the pipes &c. have 'been placed in position. The housing may be reinforced by U- shaped plates 40 suitably spaced along the bracing wires or rods 42. In a modification in which the lugs are dispensed with, the housing is provided with a circumferential groove at its external periphery, and the abutting ends of the two halves of the housing are inclined at their outer portions so as to form wedge-shaped gaps which are subsequently filled when making the joint. The two halves of the housing are formed by winding wire or strips of metal round the circumferential groove, and filling up with cement, pitch &c. To facilitate this operation a metal strip provided with holes through which the cement &c. is poured may be fitted over the groove.
