Abstract

487,491. Making chains and electric fittings; soldering ; uniting by fusion. GERULL, H. Feb. 28, 1938, No. 6229. Convention date, April 17, 1937. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] In a process of autogenous welding or soldering, the work parts are subjected to the action of a burning mixture of combustible gas and a heating gas, such as oxygen, only during the actual welding period, and are subjected before and after uniting to the action of the burning combustible gas alone. Oxidation is thus prevented by the parts before and after welding being enveloped in the protecting atmosphere of the burning combustible gas so as to exclude atmospheric air. The parts after uniting are cooled in the flame of the combustible gas to the temperature thereof. The combustible gas may consist of hydrogen or a non-oxidizing mixture of acetylene and oxygen. The heating gas may be supplied to the burning combustible gas through a cam-operated valve. Stationary burners may thus be used for making composite leading-in-wires for electric lamps, radio tubes &c. and for welding chains.
