Abstract
487,296. Non - refillable bottles. STONEBRAKER, L. G. Oct. 4, 1937, No. 26812. Convention date, Oct. 9, 1936. [Class 125 (i)] Means such as an unbalanced or biassed float valve is interposed between a stop member in the neck and a closure valve for the pouring opening by an attempt to introduce liquid into the bottle, to prevent further pouring of the bottle contents. The device may comprise, as shown in Figs. 5, 12, a sleeve 1 having a cap 2 with valve seat 4 at one end and an integral flange 3 at the other end, retained in the bottle neck A<1>, e.g. by a hood. Mounted for sliding movement in the sleeve 1 is a cradle 6, shown separately in Fig. 10, pins 9, 10 thereon fitting into holes in the shells of two eccentrically weighted ball floats 13, 14, of which the ball 13 forms a closure for the seat 4 in the sleeve 1. Attempts to introduce liquid into the bottle result in floating the upper ball 14 off its pin 10 into a balanced position where the hole in its shell does not register with the pin and the ball 14 then forms a stop between the cradle 6 and a stop 15 in the neck of the bottle to maintain the ball 13 seated on the opening 4. In some circumstances, the lower ball 13 may be floated off its pin 9 to close the opening 4, as shown in Fig. 5. A shim 18, Fig. 12, with a projecting tail 19 may be inserted in the factory between the stop 15 and upper ball 14 to lock the cradle in its lowermost position until the contents are required, when it is removed.
