Abstract

487,030. Ventilators. EARL. R. T., and EARL, R. A. Dec. 4, 1937, No. 33589. [Class 137] In a hit-and-miss ventilator comprising a fixed louvred apertured plate 5 with flanges 7 contacting with the edges of a wall opening and a slidable apertured plate 18 registering therewith, the latter is provided with an abutment 34 which engages a cam surface, such as the sides of a curved slot 35, on an actuating member 27 mounted on a boss 17, the actuating member having a pair of chains 31 on either side of the cam surface and the boss 17. The boss is integral with the stationary plate and passes through a slot 24 in the slidable plate, the latter slot preferably extending from an upper or lower edge of one of the apertures therein. The adjacent aperture is preferably provided with a partition 25 containing the slot, a partition being correspondingly provided in the fixed plate. The actuating member is kept in place on the boss by means of a collar 28. In a modification, the actuating member may have a single cam surface at the edge thereof, the abutment being held in frictional contact therewith by means of a spring acting on the slidable plate. The slots in both plates may be vertical, the slidable plate moving horizontally. The ventilator may be secured in position by the attachment means described in Specification 480,372.
