Abstract

486,825. Clamps for racket-stringing machines. PROSSER & SONS, Ltd., T. H., and JAFFE, W. E. B. July 6, 1937, No. 18744. [Class 132 (ii)] A clamp for holding a racket frame in a machine during stringing comprises two jaws mounted on on a base and drawn together and separated by a screw and arranged to clasp the racket frame between them, both jaws being freely pivoted on the base without restraint of conjoint angular movement. The racket frame is thus floatingly held so that all the clamps provided around the support hold the racket in a common plane. As shown, the racket frame j is clamped between two jaws g, h pivoted respectively on a knuckle joint h<1> and a spindle g<1> on the upstanding portion of a slide d adjusted in the support a by a screw e. The jaws are drawn together, and separated, by a right- and left-handed screw i provided with a milled head i<1>. The knuckle joint h<1> is curved to a radius extending from the screw i to permit the upper jaw to be swung aside. An abutment pad n<1> is adjusted against the outside of the frame by means of a milled head m<2> and screw n.
