Abstract

486,214. Cathode-ray tubes. RADIOAKT.-GES. D. S. LOEWE. Jan. 8, 1937, Nos. 622 and 623. Convention dates, Jan. 11, 1936 and Jan. 16, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] In picture-transmitting tubes with a picturereceiving, photo-electric, storage plate 9 and electrostatic means 13 ... 16 for causing the cathode-ray to scan this plate, a conductor 20 extended in the mean direction of the ray is mounted inside the tube, clear of its walls, between the plate 9 and the means 13 ... 16 to avoid electrostatic effects of the deflecting voltages on the plate 9. The conductor 20 may be frusto-conical and earthed as regards alternating current or directly, the main anode 8 being also earthed. Alternatively, the conductor 20 may be biassed positively relatively to the equilibrium potential of the photoelectric mosaic. The conductor 20 surrounds at least half of the length of the deflected cathode-ray and is itself surrounded by an earthed coating 19 on the wall of the tube. The electrons from the cathode 1 are concentrated on to the aperture of a diaphragm 4 by a cylinder 3 with conical member 2. The diaphragm 4 terminates in a tube 5 with apertured disc 6 to form with the anode 8 an electrostatic lens reproducing the aperture in the diaphragm 4 on the plate 9. The distance from the conductor 20 to the deflecting plates 15, 16 is at least as great as the maximum distance between the plates, and the distance of the conductor from the plate 9 is approximately equal to the height of the plate. Dimensions and voltages are specified. The picture is thrown on the plate 9 by a mirror as described in Specification 458,187. In a modification, the conductor 20 is cylindrical, contains the mirror and has at its end facing the deflecting plates, a grid as described in Specification 624/37.
