Abstract
486,185. Ordnance mountings. KRUPP AKT.-GES., F. Oct. 12, 1937, Nos. 27692 and 27693. Convention dates, Oct. 21, 1936 and April 8, 1937. [Class 92 (i)] A pedestal gun mounting, in which an upper gun - carriage is supported by a pivot which can be inclined relatively to a lower carriage in order to compensate for ground slope, has the upper carriage provided with a sleeve rotatable on a pivot which is coupled to the lower carriage by a universal joint and which has laterally extending arms rigidly fixed to it and adjustably connected to the lower carriage. The lower carriage 6, Figs. 4, 5, is of cruciform construction, the free ends of the legs being provided in known manner with elevating screws. The pivot 11 for the upper carriage has a flange 12 at its lower end, with a rim 13 to which arms 18 are secured, these arms being fixed to bearings 20 in which spindles 21 coupled to nuts 22 on universally mounted screws 24 are mounted.. The pivot 11 supports a ring 10 by shafts 17 mounted in members 15, 16 secured to the pivot, the ring 10 being provided with stub shafts 9, Fig. 5, mounted in bearings 8 secured to the lower carriage 6. The pivot carries, by means of the member 15 an internally toothed wheel 38 with which gears a training pinion (not shown) mounted in the upper carriage. The upper carriage has a sleeve 27 mounted by bearings 28, 30, 29 on the pivot and is constructed with vertical plates 33 and horizontal plates 32 to support the arms 34 carrying the trunnions 35. The arms 19 may extend in the same direction as the legs of the lower cruciform carriage, or at an angle, e.g. 45 thereto. The construction is stated to reduce the firing height and thus to increase the stability of the gun and an explanation is given, with the aid of diagrams, of the variation of the angle of tilt of the pivot which may be obtained for given gun dimensions, by variously disposing the axes of the universal-joint-ring 10 relatively to the lower carriage.
