Abstract

485,918. Brassieres. GODDYN, S. Aug. 24, 1936, Nos. 23235, 23236, and 23237. Convention dates, Aug. 24, 1935, Feb. 29, 1936, and Aug. 8, 1936. [Class 141] A brassiere comprises a band which is wholly or partially elastic, and of greater length at its upper edge than at its lower edge, the band surrounding the body of the wearer so as to embrace only the lower parts of the breasts, and being supported by shoulder straps which are bifurcated at their front ends, the bifurcations being attached to the band centrally between the breasts, and at the sides in front of the armpits. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the back of the brassiere is formed by an elastic strip 6 which is connected to the brassiere band 1 by straps 7. The band may be provided with a stomachic portion. In a modification, Fig. 5, the brassiere band is formed by a plurality of spaced parallel bands 11, and the ends of the band are adapted to be detachably fastened at the back of the wearer. In another modification, the band is provided with portions of different height. In a further modification, the band may have an arched formation. In another modification, Fig. 6, the bifurcated ends 13 of the shoulder straps are formed integrally with the brassiere band the lower edge of which may be shaped by means of plaits. In a further modification, Fig. 8, cups or pockets 15 are provided in the upper edge of the band. In a still further modification, the spaces between the upper edge of the band and the bifurcated ends of the shoulder straps are filled wholly or partially by fabric which may be pleated or gathered. In another modification, the band may be apertured, and secured at the back thereof to a corset.
