Abstract
485,902. Drilling - machines; band clips; pivots. SOC. ALSACIENNE DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES. Sept. 15, 1937, No. 25116. Convention date, April 22. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] In a drilling or like machine a pivoting arm is locked to the frame of the machine by means of an elastic clamping ring having a single gap and secured to the arm so as to yield radially but to be fixed rigidly in a tangential direction. As applied to the arm-clamp of a radial-arm drilling-machine, a ring A is split at D, E, and is attached to the arm B by a plate F which is slightly flexible in the radial direction. The ring is closed on the pillar C for clamping by means of blocks G, G<1> attached to the ends D, E, and acted upon by toggle pins N, S, and collars M, R splined to a rotatable shaft I. The axial thrust of the toggle pins is received by nuts 0, T and lock-nuts P, U, screwing on the shaft I which is prevented from moving axially by nuts and lock-nuts V, X. In a modification, the toggle pins act on the block G only, and the block G<1> abuts on a shoulder on the shaft I which is then free to move axially within the lugs H, H<1> of the arm B.
