Abstract

1,249,433. Spindle assembly. MASCHINENFABRIK FRORIEP G.m.b.H. 1 April, 1970 [1 April, 1969], No. 15403/70. Heading B3C. In a drilling and milling machine the spindle assembly comprises a milling spindle 5, rotatably and non-slidably mounted in a fixed head 2, by bearings 3, 4, and a drilling spindle 6, slidable in spindle 5, the spindle 6 being adapted to be clamped to spindle 5 when required by an hydraulic pressure-actuated clamp 7. The latter comprises an inflatable tube 8 which upon application of fluid pressure, forces annular members 9, 10 apart, so as to clamp the respective spindles. Spindle 5 is additionally supported when the clamp is actuated, by fluid pressure supplied to gaps 14.
