Abstract

Aminoketones are manufactured by reacting vinyl ketones or b -halogenethyl ketones with aliphatic primary or secondary amines containing at least six carbon atoms, e.g. hexylamine, heptylamine, octylamine, decylamine, dodecylamine, octodecylamine, oleylamine, N-methyldodecylamine or didodecylamine, or mixtures of amines. Suitable vinyl ketones are vinyl alkyl ketones, e.g. vinyl methyl or ethyl ketone, vinyl aralkyl ketones, e.g. vinyl benzyl ketone, or aromatic vinyl ketones, e.g. vinyl phenyl ketone, whilst b -chlorethyl methyl ketone is specified as a b -halogenethyl ketone. The reaction may be carried out in the cold or may be accelerated by the use of elevated temperatures, e.g. 40-100 DEG C., and, if desired, superatmospheric pressure. In some cases it is preferable to work in the presence of a solvent, and, when employing b -halogenethyl ketones, in the presence of acid-binding agents, e.g. pyridine or dimethylaniline. The products are intermediates for dyestuffs and pharmaceutical and textile assistants. They may be employed as textile assistants in the form of their salts or after reduction to the corresponding alcohols and esterification of these with sulphuric acid or etherification with alkylene oxides. In examples: (1) vinyl methyl ketone is stirred with dodecylamine, yielding \su-ketobutyldodecylamine, or with oleylamine; (2) vinyl methyl ketone is heated with isohexylamine or isoheptylamine in the presence of alcohol; (3) vinyl methyl ketone is reacted as in (2) with octodecylamine to produce N-\su-ketobutyloctodecylamine. Reference is also made to the production of N-di-(\su-ketobutyl)-dodecylamine from dodecylamine and two molecular proportions of vinyl methyl ketone.
