Abstract
An electrode or other component (other than a component acting as a resistance) of an electric discharge tube or incandescent lamp consists at least in part of a nickel-zirconium alloy which is free from manganese and silicon, has nickel as the major constituent and contains 0,05 to 3 per cent of zirconium. 1 Kilogramme of pure nickel may be melted at 1500 DEG C. in a non-oxidizing atmosphere in a crucible of aluminium oxide, magnesium oxide or zirconium oxide and 15 gms. of pure zirconium are added. The alloy is cast into rods which are cleaned and swaged or rolled at 750-800 DEG C. and shaped. The zirconium may be added in the form of its alloy with nickel or titanium.
