Abstract
A nickel base alloy, particularly suitable for use as a wire electrode for electron discharge devices or as a core of an electron emissive oxide-coated cathode, is composed of .66-3 per cent. tungsten, 0.05-0.5 per cent. carbon, up to 40 per cent. cobalt, the balance being substantially pure nickel. The alloy may also contain 0.25-2 per cent. aluminium and/or less than 1.0 per cent. of one or more of tantalum, titanium, silicon, zirconium and magnesium. When one or more of the latter elements are present cobalt may be omitted from the alloy. The preferred proportions of tungsten and carbon are 2.0 per cent. and 0.15 per cent. respectively. Preferred proportions of other elements when used singly are as follows:-aluminium 1 per cent., silicon 0.2 per cent., magnesium 0.4 per cent., tantalum 0.1-0.2 per cent., zirconium 0.5 per cent. and titanium 0.1 per cent.
