Abstract

In making starch, comminuted maize in water is subjected to germ and slop separations, and the mixture of gluten and starch is centrifuged to produce overflow and underflow streams, one of these streams being a flotation in which the gluten separates as a froth and the starch subsides, the de-aerated liquid being returned to the process. The mixture may first be centrifuged to separate some gluten and the starch underflow then subjected to centrifuging and de-aeration. If desired, the fine slop separation may be effected after the first centrifuging. The process is illustrated by a flow sheet. Specification 485,166 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the preliminary tabling of the starch. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
