Abstract

Starch is obtained from corn or other material by subjecting the material to wet milling operations to produce a mill starch containing fine fibre, which is then centrifuged to produce two streams of fluid, viz. a gluten overflow and a starch underflow, the starch underflow being then subjected to fine screening to remove the fibre. The mill starch may be thickened before centrifuging by filtering and repulping. The process is illustrated by a flow sheet.
