Abstract
484,831. Cooling motors. AKTIESELSKABET FRICHS. Feb. 3, 1937, No. 3147. Convention date, Feb. 3, 1936. [Class 79 (iii)] A cooling arrangement for internal-combustion engines on road or rail vehicles comprises two sets of radiators, one set cooled by air drawn from the outside and returned to the outside atmosphere. Where the vehicle is provided with electric power transmission, the withdrawal of air from the engine room cools the generators. In the engine room 4, one or more Diesel engines 1 coupled to electric generators 2, 3, are cooled by fluid from two sets of radiators A, B arranged in the roof. The set A comprises radiators 5, 6, Fig. 2, arranged in an external chamber 8 and cooled by a fan 10 driven by an electro-motor 9. The set B comprises a radiator 7, between a fan 11 and its driving motor 12, arranged in a vertical outlet channel 13 leading to horizontal discharge passages 16, 17, Fig. 3, provided with movable covers 20, 21 either or both of which may be closed to exclude rain, &c. The fan motors may have variable speeds and are provided with ventilating openings 22, 23, in both cases located within the engine room.
