Abstract
Arsenobenzene compounds of the general formula <FORM:0484594/IV/1> in which R and R1 represent hydroxyalkyl groups, are prepared by interaction of equimolecular proportions of a symmetrical dihydroxydiaminoarsenobenzene and a symmetrical dihydroxy-di(bis-hydroxyalkyl)amino-arsenobenzene and treatment of the unsymmetrical product with sodium formaldehydesulphoxylate. The products possess therapeutic properties. The examples describe the use of the following pairs of symmetrical reactants: (1) 3 : 31 - di(bis - dihydroxypropyl)amino-4 : 41 - dihydroxyarsenobenzene, prepared by reducing the corresponding arsonic acid, and 3 : 31 - diamino - 4 : 41 - dihydroxyarsenobenzene, prepared according to Specification 13485/10, [Class 2 (iii)]; (2) 3 : 31-dihydroxy-4 : 41 - di(bis - hydroxyethyl)amino - arsenobenzene, obtained by reducing the reaction product of 3-hydroxy-4-aminobenzene-1-arsonic acid and 2 mols. of ethylene oxide, and 3 : 31-dihydroxy - 4 : 41 - diaminoarsenobenzene; (3) 3 : 31 - bis(dihydroxypropyl - hydroxyethyl) amino - 4 : 41 - dihydroxyarsenobenzene, prepared by reducing the corresponding arsonic acid, and 3 : 31 - diamino - 4 : 41 - dihydroxy-arsenobenzene; in each case the reaction product is treated with sodium formaldehyde sulphoxylate.
