Abstract

255,971. Marks, E. C. R., (Abbott Laboratories). May 6, 1925. Organo arsenic compounds.- Arsonophenylaminoalcohols are prepared by treating an arsanalic acid or substituted arsanalic acid dissolved in alkali with an #-chloralkylchlorcarbonate, decomposing the resulting #-chloralkylarsonophenylcarbamate with alkali and then acidifying. The products can be converted into salts and possess therapeutic properties. According to the examples, (1) #-chlorethylchlorcarbonate is slowly added to a caustic soda solution of o- or parsanalic acid and the precipitated #-chlorethyl-o- or p-arsonophenylcarbamate refluxed with caustic soda or potash; on cooling and acidifying, o- or parsonophenylaminoethanol separates out; (2) gammachlorpropyl-o or p-arsonophenylcarbamate is prepared by the interaction of o- or parsanalic acid with gamma-chlorpropylchlorcarbonate and decomposed with caustic soda or potash to give o- or parsonophenylaminopropanol on acidifying; (3) arsonophenyl-4-methyl-3-aminoethanol is obtained by treating 4-methyl-3-aminophenylarsonic acid with #-chlorethylchlorcarbonate, decomposing the resulting 3-#-chlorethyl-4-methyl-arsonophenylcarbamate with caustic soda and acidifying with hydrochloric acid. #-Chloralkylchlorcarbonates are obtained by condensing an alkylene chlorhydrin with phosgene.
