Abstract

484,158. Colouring aluminium and zinc by electrodeposition. GMACH, L. T. Oct. 28, 1936, No. 29339. [Class 41] A black coating is deposited on aluminium or zinc by cathodic treatment in a bath containing in addition to nickel-plating salts one or more thiocyanates, metallic sulphates other than those of nickel and lead, and lead salts. A suitable bath comprises 10 lbs. nickel ammonium sulphate, 4 lbs. ammonium thiocyanate and 6 lbs. zinc sulphate dissolved in 20 gallons of water to which 10 Ibs. of lead acetate is then added. A nickel anode is employed. In coating aluminium a voltage of 2 is employed ; in coating zinc the voltage is less.
