[Class 100 (ii)] Rotary machines.-A multi-unit printing- machine in which a plurality of interchangeable units P of the kind described in Specification 19824/07, [Class 100], are employed provided with tubular stereoplates for printing one page each, the printing-cylinder being fitted with two or four stereos abreast, is constructed with side frames 3 supported on bases 30, the side frames 3 on the plating side of the machine, Fig. 2, being formed with standards 3c on the opposite sides of which are attached castings 3d in which are mounted boxes 2j in which are journalled the trunnions of impression cylinders 2, 2a. To the boxes 2j are fastened castings 3 having depending projections provided with annular heads 3q in which the trunnions of the cylinders 1, 1a are journalled. The heads 3q are of slightly less diameter than the cylinders 1a, 1 so that the tubular stereos P can be slid on and off the heads 3q. The side frame opposite to the ones shown in Fig. 2 are similar but are modified to provide integral bearings to receive the journals of the plate cylinders, and castings for the bearings of the impression cylinders are mounted on the side members. These frames receive bearings for vertical drive units 4c which are all driven by bevel gearing from a common drive shaft 4. The driving-arrangements are such that any one unit P can be put out of action when desired. The webs are fed from rolls W, which may be carried by supports arranged below the units P, and the webs are guided through the couples by rolls 7a, 7b and after printing the webs are guided to a folding unit F by means of rollers 7c, 7d, 8 arranged in a frame carried by standards 9 supported by the frames 3. The inking-mechanism is arranged below the plate cylinders.
