Abstract

483,946. Wire-cloths of paper-making machines. UNITED WIRE WORKS, Ltd., and GREEN, W. D. T. April 23, 1937, No. 11590. [Class 96] [Also in Group IX] A twill-weave or multipleweave papermakers' wirecloth has the long weft crimps a raised almost to the bevel of the warp knuckles d or even to that level, and the warp knuckles are flattened by grinding down to the level of the weft crimps, as shown in Fig. 4, or alternatively the warp knuckles d and weft crimps may be flattened as shown in Fig. 8. The warp wires are round, and the weft of round, elliptical square, oblong or other section. The twillweave may be regular, or irregular, and the mesh may be 40 to 80. The grinding is preferably effected after the cloth has been formed into an endless belt by causing the latter to travel across a stationary or oscillating abrading bar.
