Wire cloths.- To eliminate excessive wear of the wire cloth and the edges of the suction boxes, the seam or seams of the wire cloth are arranged inclined to the direction of travel so that the seams move gradually over the edge of the suction box, and the sudden jerk which is usual with the ordinary transverse seams is avoided. The inclined seam may be obtained by staggering the ends a, b of the wire to be joined as shown and removing the projecting side pieces. In long wires, several seams are arranged in order to obtain the desired inclination with a minimum of waste. The wire cloth may be woven into suitable form by adding warp wires on one side and taking away an equal number on the other side.
