Abstract

493,254. Wire fabrics. STEVENS, A. H. (Appleton Wire Works, Inc.) Jan. 28, 1938, No. 2766. [Class 142 (iv)] . Flat ribbon-like warp wires 10 are interwoven with tubular weft wires, which become deformed and produce flat knuckle surfaces 11a, 11b those 11a on the paper side being in the plane of the warp knuckles, whilst those in the opposite and wear side are offset upwardly, so that the wear is taken on this side by the warp wire knuckles. The tension of the top shed is arranged to be less than that of the bottom shed. Uniformly spaced flat warp and weft knuckle surfaces result on the paper side. The tubular weft wires may be formed by extrusion or drawing. In the latter case, the weft wires are preferably woven with the seam on the under side. Specification 482,273 is referred to.
