Abstract

483,918. Valve generating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., LAWRENCE, W., and LEVY, M. M. Oct. 27, 1936, No. 29175. [Class 40 (v)] An oscillator is provided with positive or regenerative feed-back at the oscillation frequency and with negative feed-back at all frequencies, the negative feed-back voltages being derived from a resistance in an output circuit whereby the same proportion of each component frequency in the output is fed back negatively. In the case of a dynatron oscillator having an anti-resonant circuit in the plate circuit of the valve for determining the fundamental oscillation frequency, an adjustable voltage derived from a feed-back resistance in the anode circuit of the valve is applied to the grid of the valve in such a phase as to oppose regeneration at all frequencies. The pentode valve V1 is provided with a positive feed-back coupling including a tuned antiresonant circuit C1, L1, the coil L1 being coupled to a coil L2 in the control-grid circuit. Negative feed-back is obtained from a resistance R1, so that the voltage applied to the grid consists of the sum of the voltages across the coil L2, and across the tapped part of the resistance R1, the tapping point being adjusted so that the positive feed-back is nearly neutralized by the negative feed-back. Several amplifier stages may be provided, the anodecathode circuit of the last valve being coupled to the grid-cathode circuit of the first valve as in the single-valve arrangement shown. Positive feed-back may be applied to one grid of an oscillator valve and negative feed-back to a second grid. In such an arrangement, the anode-cathode circuit includes a resistance and a coil in series, the resistance being tapped to supply the negative feed-back at all frequencies to one grid, and the coil being coupled to a tuned circuit to provide positive feedback at a particular frequency to the other grid. In a modification, the resistance R1 is connected in series with the tuned circuit and may be in series or in shunt to the output impedance, or alternatively negative feedback is obtained from a resistance in the common cathode lead providing grid bias for the valve, a byepassing condenser being connected across an adjustable portion of the resistance.
