483,745. Loud-speakers. MURPHY RADIO, Ltd., and BRAYSHAW, G. S. Oct. 28, 1936, No. 29350. [Class 40 (iv)] A cabinet for a loud-speaker has a sheet of sound-absorbent material placed mid-way between the front and back of the cabinet in order to diminish the resonance of the air column within the cabinet. In the construction shown, the sheet 5 located between the front 1 and rear of the cabinet is supplemented by a sheet 8 parallel to and midway between the top 6 and bottom 7 and by a further sheet 9 disposed midway between the side walls. The sheets are cut away to accommodate the diaphragm 3 and its operating mechanism 4. Sheets may also be placed at the positions of the velocity antinodes of vibrations corresponding to harmonies of the fundamental resonances. In the case of a normally openended cabinet, sheets may be placed at the open-end and at a distance from the closed end equal to one third of the distance between the open and closed ends of the cabinet.
