[Class 40 (iv).] Relates to pianos, piano players, or like musical instruments of the kind in which the soundboard operates as the diaphragm of a loud-speaker and consists in mounting on the soundboard, on the side opposite that carrying the bridge for supporting the strings, a solid wooden bridge member which is disposed approximately at the centre of gravity and is engaged by a springy oscillating needle carried by the diaphragm of the electromagnetic or electrodynamic actuating unit. As shown, a bridge member 11 mounted on the soundboard 2 of a piano 1 is connected by a springy needle 10 to the diaphragm 9 of an actuating unit 5 which is attached by a holder to the frame struts of the piano. A plurality of actuating units responsive to different ranges of frequencies may be employed. A set of adjustable louvres 15 is provided above the keyboard and to the right of these is a cupboard 16 for housing a wireless receiving set. The legs of the piano are formed as boxes 18, 19, one of which houses a gramophone and its associated amplifier whilst the other accommodates records or musical scores. The box containing the gramophone may be in the form of a drawer or may be pivoted along one edge. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a construction in which the needle 10 engages directly with the sound board or with a sleeve mounted therein. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
