Abstract
483,650. Cathode-ray tubes. BLUMLEIN, A. D. Oct. 20, 1936, No. 28516. [Class 39 (i)] An electromagnetic deflecting system for a cathode-ray tube comprises at least two pairs of coils arranged so that two sides of each coil, when the coils are assembled, lie on the surface of the tube and longitudinally with respect to the axis thereof, the conductors causing deflection of the beam in one direction being arranged in opposite quadrants and the conductors causing deflection in the other direction being arranged in the remaining opposite quadrants, the effective conductors, occupying substantially all the available space between two cylindrical surfaces coaxial with the tube. In the case of television apparatus, the coils 1, 1<1> and 2, 2<1> form the line scanning system, and the coils 3, 3<1> and 4, 4<1> the frame scanning system. The end conductors are bent away from the tube. One pair of coils is made longer than the other to permit the sides to lie edge-to-edge on the tube surface. The coils may be assembled and slid on to the tube and a magnetic yoke may be constituted by a winding of iron wire. The magnetic field set up by the coil system corrects " pincushion " distortion and the effect may be augmented by suitable distribution of the turns in the separate coils.
