Abstract
483,386. Striking-plates for latches &c. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd., and SWALLOW, W. Oct. 21, 1936, No. 28574. [Class 44] A striking - plate for latches is provided with a striking surface capable of elastic deflection which is a maximum at the edge first engaged. The Figure shows a form made from spring sheet metal comprising an attachment plate 11 and a tongue bent to form a main catch 25 and safety catch 28 preceded by inclined striking surfaces 26, 27 respectively, the end 16 of the tongue being free. The tongue is shown as backed by a correspondingly-shaped rubber block 18, but this may be omitted. A modification is described in which the rear face of the base has a peripheral flange and the tongue is formed from the base by a pair of slots, the tongue being then bent to stand up slightly from the general plane of the base. The safety catch may be omitted.
