Abstract

483,292. Sifting-apparatus. SANDERS, G., and SUREN, F. Oct. 14, 1936, No. 27915. [Class 117] [Also in Group V] Means for applying vibrations to surfaces such as sieves &c. comprises an electric motor 1 or other prime mover driving, through toothed gearing in a gear-box 2, a number of spindles 8 each adapted for connection to the flexible shaft 3 of a mechanical vibrator 4 consisting of an unbalanced mass on a rotating shaft. The vibrator 4 may be attached directly to the sieve &c. or it may be secured underneath a spring- mounted plate 5 which is applied to the work. The vibrator, Fig. 2, comprises a spindle 15 running in bearings in a casing 11 and carrying the unbalanced mass 16. A threaded extension 18 of the spindle is connected to the inner member 20 of the shaft 3 while the outer member is retained by a sleeve 23 and screw cap 22. The shafts 3 may be connected by similar means to the spindles 8. The spindles are preferably so geared together that pairs of vibrators run in opposite directions and the masses 16 may be angularly adjustable on their shafts so that they may be angularly spaced relatively to one another. More than one mass may also be carried on each shaft.
