Abstract

482,908. Cables. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., and HART, L. Oct. 23, 1936, No. 28880. [Class 36] In a flexible cable comprising one or more insulated conductors which form, with or without fillings and/or a covering, a body having an outer surface of rubber or other flexible material, the body is enclosed in a non- metallic braided covering in which is interwoven one or more textile cords for resisting tension to which the cable may be subjected. The tension resisting cord, which is of substantially greater tensile strength than an element of the braided covering may extend helically of the cable, replacing one of the elements of the braid, or may run parallel with the cable axis and be interlaced with the elements of the braid. The cord may be of circular or flat section and may serve as an identification or length indicating cord. In the construction shown, rubber insulated conductors 1 are laid up and enclosed in an extruded rubber sheath 2 about which is applied a braided covering 3 containing textile tension resisting cords 6, 7 extending helically in opposite directions. The final vulcanizing operation causes the covering 3 and the cords 6, 7 to adhere to the sheath 2.
