Abstract

482,875. Loading ordnance. KRUPP AKT.-GES., F. Nov. 19, 1937, No. 31863. Convention date, March 12. Addition to 466,554. [Class 92 (i)] The barrel-recoil automatically-loaded gun according to the parent Specification is now provided with a movable member interposed between the entraining member of the barrel and the stop on the power accumulator, which member has two separate faces one of which takes the shock when the barrel engages with the accumulator in its return movement, while the other face serves to take the sliding movement under pressure when the power accumulator is uncoupled from the barrel. In the construction shown, the intermediate member consists of a rocking lever 102 having a front surface 104 which is adapted during run-out to engage with the stop f<4> on the cylinder F of the accumulator. The lever is pivoted at 101 to the gun barrel A and is influenced by a spring 103 which tends always to urge it to the vertical position shown. The entraining member of the barrel consists of a vertically-slidable rack 106 which is actuated by quadrant 108 pivoted to the barrel. A spring in a casing 110 tends to hold the quadrant against a stop 111. During run-out, the face 104 encounters the stop f<4>, and the barrel A and cylinder F then move together until an arm 109 on the quadrant 108 strikes a stop 112 on the gun cradle. The quadrant is thus moved in an anti-clockwise direction against the action of its spring and thereby moves the rack 106 clear of the rear face 105 of the lever 102, the lever being then rocked counterclockwise by the stop f<4> against the action of its spring. The cylinder F is held in its forward position by a locking bolt N. When this bolt is released the cylinder moves rearwardly to effect the ramming operation and the lever 102 slides off the left-hand end of the stop f<4>. When the barrel recoils the lever is rocked by the stop in a clockwise direction and, when it slides off the right-hand end of the stop, is returned by its spring to abut against the rack 106 which has been moved by its spring into its uppermost position. By lifting the rocking lever in a clockwise direction and inserting a pin through the bore 114 of a rod 113 connected thereto, the entraining mechanism may be held clear of the power accumulator.
