Abstract

482,837. Woven fabrics. CLUTSOM, C. Oct. 10, 1936, No. 27542. [Class 142 (iv)] A double-faced fabric having face wefts 3 and back wefts 4 has a knitted selvage at one or both edges. This may comprise interknitted loops of the weft 3 formed into a chain of loops 5 engaging loops of the back weft as shown in Fig. 2, or loops of both wefts 3, 4 may be knitted together as shown in Fig. 4. One or more weft laying members and latch needles may be used, as described in Specification 478,529, and there may be several sets of the mechanism arranged one above another as in the production of separate webs or pieces. The fabric may have a silk or artificial silk or like lustrous front and a cotton, wool or like back. The fabric may comprise elastic threads. It may be used for corsets, belts, girdles, &c. The invention may be applied to ribbons.
