Abstract
482,637. Coal &c. cutting machines. LEWIS, O. F., and NEWTON, CHAMBERS, & CO., Ltd. March 12, 1937, Nos. 7304 and 7685. [Class 68 (i)] [Also in Group XXV] The cutter chain of a coal &c. cutting machine comprises pick boxes 2 adapted to abut and connected by curved links 8, the body of each pick box being of saddle form with inturned lower edges 16, Figs. 3 and 4, adapted to engage below a T-shaped member 17 bolted to the bottom plate 14 of the jib guide. In another form, Fig. 6, the pick boxes have projections 20 engaging channels in the jib side plates. The links 8 have sockets 23 to receive the sprocket teeth, while the pick boxes have straight bases 26 adapted to engage the straight parts of the jib guide and inner curved cross-ties 25 adapted to bear between the sprocket teeth or on the radius guide at the outer end of the jib. Some pick boxes carry three picks 5 and others two picks making intermediate cuts.
