482,248. Gun recoil-absorbers. GALLIOT, N. J. A., and CHABLE, J. A. V. A. Aug. 3, 1937, No. 21366. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1936. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to muzzleattachments for checking recoil as described for example in Specification 454,003 in which convergent-divergent nozzles b, c, d are provided with internal helicoidal ribs b<3>, c<3>, d3, deflector surfaces c<2>, d<2>, f<2>, and external helicoidal ribs j, i, h whereby the gun gases are rejected rearwardly on to a series of conical cups or shells and thereby returned towards the front of the gun. According to the present invention, the cups or shells are formed by independent rings l which are slipped in succession round a supporting sleeve on the gun barrel by which they are maintained in place to the rear of the recoil absorber. In the form shown, the rings are supported at the rear by radial fins k<1> on a barrel sleeve k and at the front by the ribs h on the nozzle b. The rings are spaced apart by members l<2> removably attached to their dorsal faces.
