Abstract
482,211. Unit air-coolers. CARRIER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Sept. 24, 1936, No. 26002. Convention date, June 5. [Class 137] [Also in Group XIII] An air - conditioning unit comprises an evaporator 34 for refrigerant; a condenser 13 including a receiver 38 for condensed refrigerant and a subcooler 39 connected between the receiver and evaporator, and ventilating air is circulated over the evaporator by a fan 28 and outdoor air over the condenser and subcooler by a fan 17, moisture condensed from air passing'over the evaporator being used to wet the subcooler. The latter may be disposed in a pan 40 to which condensed moisture is led from collecting pans under the evaporator. A wheel 42 dipping in the pan 40 may be provided on the shaft of the air circulating fan 17. Some of the moisture is then splashed over the condenser 13 which is thus evaporatively subcooled. A centrifugal fan having a scrollshaped housing may be used to circulate the air. In this case moisture may be admitted to the fan housing and is then flung on to the condenser 13 without the necessity for the use of wheel 42. The air circulating arrangements in the unit are the same as those described in Specification 482,210.
