Abstract
413,062. Refrigerating. ZANCHI, A., 57, Via Giambellino, Milan, Italy. March 4, 1933, No. 6668. [Class 29.] Compression machines and systems.-In a machine of the kind including a rotary compressor 2 driven by an electric motor 1 and surrounded by a condenser coil 14 in a sealed .casing provided with a purging valve 29, the motor is cooled by the passage therethrough of compressed vapour. Refrigerant vapour and lubricant are drawn into the compressor through the pipes 13, 25 respectively and discharged through a duct 24, having a connection 26 to the upper motor bearing, on to a rotary plate 22, the lubricant being thus separated from the vapour by centrifugal force. The condensed refrigerant flows from the condenser space to a reservoir 17 in the base to which are fitted the cooling water, refrigerant, and electrical connections and valves of the machine. In a modification, the condenser coil is formed with additional turns 141, Fig. 2, and the condensate formed thereon drips on to the motor and is re-evaporated. The condenser cooling water may be circulated by a pump 41, Fig. 7, through a radiator 38 cooled by a fan 44 driven by the pump motor 43. In this case, the motor 43 is arranged to start at the same time as the compressor motor. In another arrangement, the cooling water circulates thermosyphonically through a casing 38, Fig. 6, open to the atmosphere at its ends and having compartments 47 interconnected by cooling pipes 48 disposed in perforate compartments through which atmospheric air circulates.
