[Class 83 (ii)] A method of manufacturing permanent magnets consists in welding polepieces of soft iron to prepared surfaces of the cast steel magnet body, hardening the welded pieces, machining the polepieces which may have become distorted, and finally magnetizing the whole. The body may be cleaned at the welding surfaces by sand, by grinding, or other mechanical or chemical means.
