Abstract

A rubber-cement is made by adding hydraulic material such as cement or calcium hydroxide to an aqueous dispersion of natural or synthetic rubber, such as rubber latex. In order to prevent premature coagulation of the latex, an alkaline substance, such as alkali carbonate or a caustic alkali, capable of dissolving rapidly in the aqueous portion of the latex, is added to the dry cement powder. Other substances may be added to the dry cement powder, such as casein, hydrated lime, asbestos, pigments, vulcanizing agents, or such compounding fillers as china clay and carbon black.
