Abstract
An adhesive composition comprises a dispersion made from neoprene in large aggregate and a resinous material. The dispersion is preferably made by softening sheet neoprene on a mixer with a little toluene, adding gum rosin and then zinc or calcium resinate, or the glyceryl ester of rosin, or hydrogenated rosin, followed by caustic soda solution, colloidal aluminium hydroxide and casein in that order. Neoprene latex obtained by the polymerisation of chloroprene in situ, for example by the methods described in Specification 387,340 may also be added.ALSO:An adhesive composition comprises a dispersion made from neoprene in large aggregate and a resinous material; if neoprene latex obtained by the polymerisation of chloroprene in situ, for example, by the methods described in Specification 387,340, are also present then the dispersion may be obtained in any known way: if neoprene latex is not added, then the neoprene in large aggregate and the resinous material are mixed and emulsified with a colloidal inorganic material and an organic material. The dispersion is preferably obtained by softening sheet neoprene on a mixer with a little toluene, adding gum rosin and then zinc or calcium resinate, or the glyceryl ester of rosin, or hydrogenated rosin followed by caustic soda solution, colloidal aluminium hydroxide and casein in that order. The adhesive may be used for joining shoe uppers.
