481,593. Compound fabrics. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., and WILSON, A. E. July 9, 1936, No. 19081. Drawings to Specification. [Class 140] An adhesive tape suitable for electrical insulation consists of a woven fibrous tape folded longitudinally to provide one selvedge and one (double) free edge, adhesive lying between the plies and penetrating through them to their exterior surfaces. The adhesive is applied as a hot liquid which on cooling to ordinary temperatures sets and hardens but remains sticky. Suitable adhesives are (parts by weight) : (1) natural copal resin 80, castor oil 20, (2) pitch 30, castor oil 16, a phenol-formaldehyde synthetic resin sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Homac No. 1 " 54. The tape, e.g. bias, may be impregnated with adhesive before or after folding. A coil of folded, unimpregnated tape is placed in a bath of the adhesive under vacuum (to remove entrapped air), uncoiled, passed through the bath and between rolls placed in the adhesive bath or near thereto or in both places, cooled and coiled. The strip may be folded while still immersed in the bath, after impregnation. Specification 436,876 is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification the tape may be made by joining two separate tapes.
