Abstract

481,446. Feeding hairs singly from bulk. WEST, C. Sept. 10, 1936, No. 24723. [Class 142 (ii)] Apparatus for use in attaching hairs to furs comprises a pair of gripping jaws 11, 12 opened and closed by trigger or other mechanism 16 with means, e.g. a gauge 18, for determining the depth and extent of opening of the jaws and consequently the number of hairs 19 transferred at each operation. The separated hairs are gummed &c. and applied to the fur at a place opened out by a blast of air from a nozzle 20, 60. As shown in Fig. 8, the hair box 31 is mounted on a spring 33 and vibrated by a cam 61. The gripper jaws are carried by a lever system and move in a path 43 being opened and closed by a lever 44 and tappets 45, 55. A rod 49 dips into an adhesive container 50 and is lifted by a cam 47 and pin 46 into the position 51 to transfer adhesive to the separated hairs as they are raised and applied to the fabric 52. The blast of air is supplied by a pump 56.
