[Class 60] In an engraving or like copying machine wherein the tool employed is a grinding-wheel D, the operative portion of which corresponds in shape to that of a tracer C, the wheel is trued by a diamond, &c., O<3> mounted on the work supporting table H of the machine, and moved under control of a pantograph B<1> . . B<4>, whilst a follower O<2> is moved in contact with the tracer. In order that the shape of the diamond may correspond to that of the follower, the tracer is replaced by a straight edged former O<1> and the grinding-wheel is replaced by a lap 0 having a cylindrical working edge, the diamond then being shaped by movement of the pantograph whilst the follower O<2> is moved in contact with the former O<1>. The edges of the lap and the follower are set in a plane containing the axis B of the pantograph by the aid of two microscopes or other sighting- devices which also are employed in the actual trueing operation, and the lap is reciprocated np and down ; the line of reciprocation may be inclined to the vertical to give a front rake to the diamond.
