Abstract

In making copper-lead alloys containing lithium, loss of lithium from the molten charge may be prevented and a lithium-containing atmosphere maintained about the crucible by treating the furnace linings before use with lithium vapour. For example, a lining containing 65 per cent of silica and 25 per cent of alumina may be impregnated by heating lithium in the furnace.
