480,497. Collapsable vestibules between vehicles. BUGATTI, E. April 28, 1937, No. 12146. Convention date, April 29, 1936. [Class 103 (iv)] In a vestibule connection between railway cars of the kind comprising a belt or a tubular sleeve which by its elasticity preserves an unbroken contour along the length of the train, the belt or sleeve is provided along one or both vertical edges with a bead or welt which cooperates with means on the end of the carriage for securing the belt in position. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, a substantially rectangular frame D attached to the end of the carriage A forms a channel F adapted to receive the welt C of the belt B, a cable H passing internally through the welt being tightened by screw means I<11> for drawing the welt into the channel F and simultaneously tensioning the belt. Both ends of the belt may be equipped with tightening means, and such ends may meet or overlap so as entirely to exclude dust or draughts. In a modification, Fig. 6, the frame N in which the channel M is formed may be adjusted in relation to the vehicle by screw-and-nut mechanism O, P, additional tension being thus applied to the belt B. When the elastic connection is in the form of a tubular sleeve, the edges of the same may constitute extensible beads adapted to be slipped over fixed frames on the vehicles, or they may be non-extensible and adapted to be engaged by frames composed wholly or partly of foldable or removable segments.
